Terms of Service

8140.study is a subscription training platform. It provides courses, knowledge checks, written labs, practice exams, a study plan, and reference data about DoD 8140 qualification — certifications, work roles, and the qualification matrix. Courses are built toward certification exams administered by independent vendors such as CompTIA, ISC2, ISACA, EC-Council, GIAC, Cisco, and CertNexus.

The reference catalog is free to read without an account. A free account adds the first module of every course plus progress tracking. A paid subscription unlocks the rest. The pricing page describes the boundary exactly.

You sign in with Google or an email magic link. You're responsible for keeping access to that Google account or email inbox secure, because whoever controls it controls your 8140.study account. One account is for one person — your progress, study plan, and exam attempts are yours, and sharing a paid account defeats the point of both.

We can suspend or close an account that violates these terms. If we close your paid account for a reason that isn't your violation of these terms, we'll refund the unused portion of what you paid.

The subscription is $39 per month or $390 per year. Both renew automatically at the end of each billing period until you cancel. Payment is processed by Stripe through its hosted checkout — your card details go to Stripe, not to us, and we never see your card number.

Cancellation is self-serve through the Stripe billing portal, reachable from your account page. Cancelling stops the next renewal; your access runs to the end of the period you already paid for. There is no cancellation fee and no one to argue with.

Refunds are covered by the refund policy, which is short and worth reading before you buy.

If we change prices, the change applies from your next renewal, and we'll tell you before it does — never mid-period.

Use the service to study. Don't scrape, copy, or redistribute the course content or exam questions; don't share a paid account; don't probe or attack the service; don't use it for anything unlawful. The free reference data carries source links precisely so you can cite the underlying sources directly — cite those, not us, in anything official.

The course content, labs, knowledge checks, and the way the reference data is organized and presented are ours. Your subscription is a license to use them for your own study, not a right to reproduce them.

The certification names on this site — Security+, CISSP, and the rest — are trademarks of their respective owners: CompTIA, ISC2, ISACA, EC-Council, GIAC, Cisco, and CertNexus. We use them to identify the exams we prepare you for. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or partnered with any of those vendors, and nothing here is official vendor material.

We do not guarantee you will pass any exam. Nobody honestly can — the exam is written and graded by the vendor, and how you prepare matters more than any platform. What we commit to is course material generated from the vendor's published exam blueprint, kept current when the blueprint changes.

8140.study is an independent training product. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or an official system of the U.S. Department of Defense. Your progress, attempts, and records here are training records on a private platform — they are not official DoD records, and no completion here qualifies you for a work role by itself. Qualification determinations belong to your DoD component and its systems of record.

The service is provided as-is. We work hard on accuracy — every requirement in the catalog carries a source and a date — but we can't warrant that everything is error-free or that the service is never interrupted.

To the maximum extent the law allows, our total liability to you for any claim arising from the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose. We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses — including a failed exam, a missed qualification deadline, or decisions made from the reference data. That's not us dodging responsibility for our mistakes; it's the honest shape of a $39/month product.

If we change these terms in a way that matters, we'll email the address on your account before the change takes effect and update the effective date at the top of this page. Continuing to use the service after that date means the new terms apply. We won't change the terms of a period you've already paid for.

These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute arising out of these terms or the service will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Loudoun County, Virginia, and both sides consent to the jurisdiction of those courts.
